Thomas Frank..?
We expected way more
On 12 June this year, Thomas Frank was unveiled as Tottenham Hotspur’s head coach, taking over from Ange Postecoglou, who had led Spurs to their first piece of silverware in 17 years just a season ago.
Frank’s arrival immediately raised the stakes. The club set out to become “a real top-six side,” and backed that ambition with a whopping £170–£172 million in new signings, including Kevin Danso, Xavi Simons, Mathys Tel, and Kota Takai. The message was clear: Spurs were aiming high, and the board was fully on board.
The season kicks off… A comfortable 3–0 victory over newly promoted Burnley suggested a positive start, before an eye-catching win against Manchester City raised expectations further. However, that momentum quickly faded. A defeat to Bournemouth exposed familiar flaws, and Spurs’ form deteriorated rapidly. Across their next 13 Premier League fixtures, Tottenham recorded just three wins, four draws and six losses — a run that plunged the club back into uncertainty.
Now For the biggest question:
What’s Going On..
Maybe Thomas Frank can’t handle the step up from a mid-table club to a top-six side like Tottenham Hotspur.
In my opinion, Thomas Frank needs more time to prove himself — but more importantly, he needs to change the club’s playstyle. Instead of placing heavy emphasis on throw-ins and set pieces, Spurs should look to control games through ball-carrying and technical players such as Xavi Simons, Pape Sarr, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Bergvall. Further ideas on what Thomas Frank may be getting wrong are discussed below by LilywhiteLab on X
However, these should be issues for Frank to improve on, not reasons for him to be sacked.
These issues are especially relevant with a difficult match against Liverpool coming up this weekend. Liverpool themselves have been struggling, though that is a discussion for another day. They currently sit 7th in the table, four points above 11th-placed Spurs. A win for Tottenham would do wonders — not only for their league position, but also in helping to stabilise Thomas Frank’s role as head coach, even if the task proves challenging.
Let me Know, Should Thomas Frank be sacked?
Thanks for reading, as always.
